Toponimia

Mapastepec, in lingua mwganáhuatl significa "mwgqMonte degli orsetti lavatori".

Storia

Mapastepec fu fondato come mwhapueblo tributario degli mwhqaztechi nel mwhg1486 con il nome di Mapachtépec.
Dal mwia1983, in seguito alla divisione del mwiqSistema de Planeación, è ubicata nella regione economica mwigVIII: SOCONUSCO.
